What is happening to our world? People are just getting crazy! A homeless man in Miami gets his face chewed off by a man who can only be described as an animal! News reports says that he pulled the homeless man out of the shade, beat him, stripped him and began chewing his face off! What the heck is happening people? Of course the police killed him when he went for them, baring teeth and all! Now we will never know what the lunatic was thinking! That was Miami!

In Canada here, the craziness just continues! A human foot was mailed to the Tory headquarters in Montreal. Later a torso that is believed to match the foot was found, what the heck?

Do you think people are maybe watching too much vampire movies? Reading too much or maybe they’re not reading enough? I don’t ever remember hearing gory stories like this when I was younger, it seems the crimes against people are more vicious, more primal!

I don’t know what it is, but people I beg of you, be careful, look out for the innocent and elderly! who knows who or what is lurking in the bushes!

Be safe my friends!

Feeling a bit lonely for Mexico and in the mood for some tacos, I threw this together and was really pleasantly surprised at the delicious outcome! You can use leftover fish too for this recipe! I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

  •                     1 pound red snapper or orange roughy or trout fillets(any fish)
  •                     1 garlic clove, minced
  •                     7 teaspoons lime juice, divided
  •                     1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  •                     2 tablespoons reduced fat sour cream
  •                     2 tablespoons fat-free mayonnaise
  •                     1 dash hot pepper or sriracha sauce
  •                     corn  tortillas, warmed

    • 1/2  cabbage shredded or bag of slaw
    • 2 spears of pineapple minced
    • juice of 2 limes
    • 1/4 c. apple cider vinegar
    • 1/4 EVOO
    • 1 tsp cumin
    • S&P
    • 2 pkts of stevia or 1/4 cup sugar

1.     Remove skin from fish and cut fish into 1-in. cubes. In a non-stick skillet, saute garlic in butter and 5 teaspoons lime juice for 30 seconds. Add fish and pepper. Cook for 6-8 minutes over medium heat until fish flakes easily with a fork.

2. For the slaw, blend all the ingredients together and let sit till ready to serve.

3.  Meanwhile, combine the sour cream, mayonnaise, hot pepper sauce and remaining lime juice. Place as spoonful of fish on each tortilla. Top each with slaw, and sour cream sauce; fold over and enjoy!

Yesterday I was thanking God for all the rain as here in London, we’ve had a mandatory ban on using any outside water for almost a week now! So my flowers were real happy yesterday and I think I saw the fish clapping too! I saw a few people out on their stoops just watching the rain fall! It was a sight for sore eyes! This is something you’d think you’d be reading in August or maybe even July but not May!

Do you get the feeling this is going to be a hot summer? If today is any kind of indication, I’d say yes it will be! It’s already 31 degrees and that’s without the humidex! Really our normal temp for May 28 is like 18 or somewhere around there! What is up?

So here’s a few tips to stay cool:

  • Drink lots of water at room temp
  • Call a neighbor with a pool and go for a dip(yes I have a pool, come on by!)
  • Pour cool water over your head or a cold shower!
  • Wear light clothing, leave the black to the bikers!
  • Go to the mall or the movies, they keep those places like ice boxes!
  • Don’t use the stove, have a salad tonight! Better yet, order out and save someone a job!
  • Use fans in your home even if you have air, circulate that cool air!
  • If you don’t have air, try putting a bowl of ice( a block) in front of the fan
  • Splash your face, wrists and arms with cool water…it really works.
  • Do not leave your kids or pets in the car…DUH
  • Check on any elder neighbors or relatives

Anybody have anymore ideas? I’s be happy to share any ideas!! Have a safe and cool time out there people!

Our nephew David passed away almost nine years ago. When he did we grasped at anything to help us feel closer to him. Today I found this story of the dragon-fly which reminds me of David. It’s not his anniversary today or any special day and that just proves we are always thinking of David. I hope you enjoy this little tale, author unknown.

Tale of the Dragonfly

Down below the surface of a pond lived a colony of water bugs. They were a happy colony, living in the mud at the bottom of the pond. Once in a while a water bug would swim to the surface of the pond, climb a pond lily, and move out of sight. He waited and waited but his friends did not return.

He gathered his other friends together and discussed the situation. The group of water bugs made a pact. They decided the next one of the group who climbs up a pond lily must promise to come back and tell the others where he went, and why.

Not long after, the very water bug who came up with the plan, found himself climbing up the lily stalk. Before he knew what was happening, he was out of the water and lying on a lily pad. Exhausted and weak from the journey, he slept.

When he awoke, he noticed a complete change in his old body. His movement revealed glistening wings and a long tail. He fluttered his wings and found himself flying above the water. He had become a dragonfly. Swooping and diving through the air, he felt exhilarated in the new atmosphere.

He flew around happily above the water, and then noticed his friends the water bugs at the bottom of the pond. He remembered the promise he made: to go back and tell them where he went and why. He darted down, but hit the surface, but hit the surface of the water and realized as a dragonfly, he couldn’t go into the water.

No matter how he tried, he couldn’t keep his promise. And if he could go back, none of the new water bugs would recognize him in his new body. He decided he would just have to wait until they became dragonflies, and then they would understand what happened.

So, he whizzed away happily into his new world, looking for other dragonflies, to be reunited with friends below that left the pond before him.

Have you ever saved a life and felt so proud of yourself? It takes your breath away right? Well today, I saved a life too! Mind you it was just a chipmunk but never the less, it was a life saved! I am sure all the animal lovers out there would agree! After all, I’ll bet she had a brother or sister out there somewhere in my yard worried to death about her! So there, I may have saved two lives then!

I was innocently working in the yard, finishing the bush trimmings that I started on Saturday…we have a lot of bushes and trees! Anyhow, I see this thing in the pool and it was a little chipmunk doing the tiniest dog paddle ever! Poor thing was getting worn out too, so I grabbed the skimmer with the long handle, scooped her out and laid her out in the sun to dry! I told her to take her time and just catch her breath before she had to run off! That’s when I had a thought…Oh my Lord, I am talking to chipmunks now!

For some reason the chipmunks like to commit suicide in our pool! Our yard has the natural hill to it and at the top of the yard(Hill) there’s a little hide out for the chippies and every once in a while they come running down that hill at top speed and forget to make the turn and plop, go right in the pool! I’m not sure what gets them running or going so fast,a predator I suppose, but every year we have to scoop out a few fatalities! If we’re not out there when it happens, I’m afraid they usually die.  So today at least,  save a life!

A few summers ago Denis was away for two weeks which meant I would be the one checking the skimmer basket everyday. This is not a hard job but that’s where you’ll find the chippies if they’ve gone on a suicide mission, so I’m not a fan of the skimmer basket. So while he was away one day I decide to check the basket before I head out for the day, and there was a chippie doing the doggie paddle and I scooped him out! Feeling all proud of myself, I head to the basket and there was a gonner in there, so I dispose of it and then I see another in the pool, I scoop him out and then I see another dead one on the deck! It was like they had a suicide pact or something! They couldn’t take anymore of our cruel world! I mean, who can blame them some days?

So you see my friends, today I saved a life and I feel good. This has got to get me some kind of brownie points or good karma or something right?

Here’s to Life!

Sweet Marie

For me Victoria long weekend or the May 2-4 as it’s been nicknamed for years, is all about getting the chores in the yard done before you can dig in and have fun! This year, the weather co-operated and we got to do what we wanted to do! For the last several years, it’s been cold or wet on the 2-4! I’m not sure when or how it got nicknamed the 2-4, I think it had to do with it usually falling on or around May 24th. For the longest time, I thought it was because everyone went out and bought a 2-4 of beer! I guess if you didn’t know I was Canadian, that would be a sure sign right there!

So we started out the weekend all gung-ho for the chores! Friday night while sipping our wine on the patio, we made our to-do list and made great plans for the following day! Denis got most of his list done, but as usual, I got side tracked and did a whole lot of other things! I always do that!  I start out making a salad, then I’ll see a lot of eggs, so I’ll make hard-boiled eggs, then I’ll see these sad-looking potatoes so I might as well make a potato salad, and well while I’m at it I’ll marinate some chops for dinner and well I might as well….it just can never end for me!

In the end, I did give some of the bushes out front a haircut, but not all of them and I did clean out the smoker…yuck! That’s worse than cleaning a stinky, dirty oven! No wonder Denis snickered when I said I’d take that job! He’s no dumb toot! I’ll know better next time! So we had said we’d call it quits at 3 so that we could enjoy the rest of the weekend and at 3:10 I was making Pina Coladas with the rum Melissa brought us from Cuba! It’s simple, just take a can of pineapple, a can of coconut milk and 1/2 can of rum and zoom in your blender! Delish! I think this rum must be 100 proof…wowsa!

Anyhow, those Pina Coladas, led us to a visit with our good friends Heather and Gary, we kind of went back and forth to their place and then back to ours for a campfire where we roasted wienies! Loads of giggles and a bit more wine and we were ready to call it a day after all that sun and all those chores!

Sunday proved to be another day of sun that could not be wasted so we headed for the tennis courts and had us a few games! I let Denis win, ok he beat my butt but I gave it a good go for a while! Every once in a while he let’s me get a few points and even lets me win a game now and then but I haven’t won a set yet! Summer is young, I got a new racket yesterday so my spirits are high! Wish me luck!

So, it’s Tuesday and back to all the routine of life! Truly I don’t mind so much as it was a great long weekend and today we’re getting some much-needed rain! Tomorrow the sun will shine again!

To my American readers, I hope you are blessed with a nice hot long weekend coming up!

Sweet Marie

You know, most people go to the gym to work out, to sweat off that burger or big bowl of chips! No, not me, I go to the gym to whack my head! Today while working out I decided to open the door to outside(against the rules,I know) because we were all getting too hot. You can’t have that, a bunch of women sweating away!

I digress, anyhow, I opened the silly door with a huge heave and put a weight in the door to keep it open. I then turned to get back to my marching and BANG, I walked right into a speaker that clearly hangs to low on the wall! I mean, really I am not that tall! I am 5’6″ which is slightly over the average but really why would I go and do a thing like that? Better question, why is that speaker hanging so low?

So, here I sit with a bag of peas perched on my head while I type. Not an easy task I will admit! I have a lovely goose head on the side of my head and it is a lovely shade of purple! Ouch is all I can say! I have a bit of a headache but think I’ll probably survive.

What I am wondering is, is it a big enough injury to get me out of all of the May long weekend chores we have planned? How can I work this in my favour here? Maybe I can get out of cooking tonight? They say there’s always a silver lining to everything so maybe that’s it for me? It seems lately I am been in the market for silver linings enough to line the skies!

So folks, this is my story of the day, I know it’s a bit dull, actually the throbbing is a bit dull but that’s all I got for you! Somedays I just don’t have much to say! maybe that is saying a lot right there! words for you to think on!

Exercise safely people!
