My Sweet Marie

Golompke (Cabbage Casserole)

Posted on: November 22, 2011

I gave this recipe a go and I liked it so thought I’d share. It’s easy to do and quite yummy. It reminds me of cabbage rolls without the work!

  • 1 lb of ground meat(chicken, turkey or beef)
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 carrots shredded
  • 1/2 cabbage sliced or shredded
  • 1/2 cup brown rice
  • 1 cup water or broth
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 can tomato soup, not diluted
  • salt, pepper and thyme to taste
  1. Pre-cook the ground meat till pink is gone, drain.
  2. In the bottom of a 13 x 9 pan or a mid size casserole, add the rice and broth.
  3. Layer the cabbage, onions, carrots and meat over top.
  4. Blend the soup and tomatoes together till smooth.
  5. Pour the tomatoes and soup over the cabbage, carrot, meat mix.
  6. Add spices as you prefer.
  7. Cover with foil and bake 1- 1.5 hours in a 375 degree oven.
  8. Makes 6-8 servings.

*** You may sub a bag of cole slaw mix to sub the cabbage/carrots.
