Occupy London,ON

Posted on: November 9, 2011

Occupy London,On is a peaceful, non-violent protest against economic inequality, the lack of affordable housing, social injustices, corporate greed and the influence of companies and lobbyists on government taking place in UK, U.S. and Canada, which started on 15 October 2011. The protests began in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street protests in New York, United States.  Here in downtown London,On, protesters had set up camp in beautiful Victoria Park,on Oct. 22,2011.

The protesters have met with the mayor and city council with their beefs, their grievances but no solutions were found. Truthfully, if you want to know my opinion, they have no real plan, they have no solutions, only beefs. There comes a time when you need to stop whining and asking for what it is you want! Speak up people, what exactly do you propose we do, other than protest?

So with no solution in sight, the Mayor Joe Fontana had no option but to evict them. They were given eviction notices and asked to leave the park by yesterday at 6 p.m.. They also were given a list of reasons why they shouldn’t be in the park, but still they stayed.

Of course, thousands of people gathered at the park to either watch or take part in the unfolding of Occupy London, no pun intended. Thankfully, cooler heads prevailed and the police waited till the wee hours when most people had left, to move in and tear down the camp.  There are no reports of violence or arrests.

I definitely am a person to take part in helping the under-dog, heck I’ve been the under-dog, but seriously folks, what is the plan? Are you expecting to sleep out in the freezing cold weather in London,ON all winter? What are you accomplishing other than showing the rich and greedy, that you can take the heat, or in this case the cold?

So forgive me if I don’t understand but I’ve watched many newscasts, read blogs, read the Facebook page for Occupy London and still, I am confused. I know who you are, you’re the 99% of the workforce, you represent change but what is the plan? How will you affect change? This is my question, I hope somehow someone from the camp reads my blog and posts a comment. I will post any comment that is respectful and without profanity.

Sincerest regards,

Sweet Marie
