Denis’ Superbowl Chilli

This recipe is my husband’s. We make a huge batch of this chili the day before superbowl and then re-heat on day of. It is a great recipe. I hope you enjoy it! You can go healthy by doing all turkey and no beef!

You will need:

  • 1 lb of ground meat(beef,turkey or chicken)
  • 1 lb of stew beef
  • 1 pkg of sausage (turkey, italian, mild or hot)
  • 3  large cans of diced tomatoes
  • 2 cans kidney beans (red or white or both)
  • 1 can black beans
  • med. onion diced
  • 2 ribs of celery diced
  • 1 red or green pepper diced
  • 1-3 red chilli peppers(depending on your taste buds, the more, the hotter) or chili flakes
  • 1 carrot peeled and diced
  • 2-3 tbsp of chilli powder to taste
  • 1-2 chipotle pepper

In a large pot, saute the veggies with the meats till browned. Add in the tomatoes and beans and let cook for an hour or two. I find the longer it simmers, the more flavourful it is. Salt and pepper to taste. I find it has so much taste, I don’t need salt.

** this can be done in a crock pot too. Just brown the meat first, then throw all of it in the crock pot on high for 2 hours, then low for another 2-4 hours. Or on low for 8 hours.

** This makes a very big batch. It you want to scale it down, take out one meat, one beans,one tomatoes.
