Fewer things are more delightful than grandchildren fighting over your lap!

Sorry I didn’t blog yesterday or get on the computer at all, as yesterday was grand-children day, it seems! I had Melissa and Dan’s kids, Heidi and Blake, for the day and man did we have fun! Heidi is just shy of 4 and Blake is 15 months old. So for Blake the job of the day was to see how fast he can get Meme to jump! Man he’s fast. You see Blake was born a preemie at a mere 4 lbs and you’d never know looking at him or spending a moment with him! He is smart as a whip, laughs all the time and never stops moving except for those blissful naps he takes in the afternoon, thank God for those naps! That’s when I re-charge with tea and some quiet time with Heidi!

Heidi’s mission yesterday was to make a picture for her other Grand-ma, as it was her birthday. So out came the paints, paper, brushes, glue, crepe paper and any other crafty thing we could get our hands on! It was a large piece of sketching paper so we had a lot of room to work with! While Blake roamed at our feet, we painted, glued, cut and drew all over the sheet! It truly turned out awesome! I hope she likes it.  Happy birthday Michelle.

Melissa picked the kids up at 4:30 and once we got them dressed, a herculean task, boots on and all bags and art accounted for, they were out the door and on their way to a weekend of fun, no doubt! I got the house somewhat back to our ‘normal’ and got supper in the oven as I knew Holly was on her way! No rest for the wicked today!

Holly is the daughter of Melanie and Jim, she is 19 months old and cute as they get! She’s a petite little girl like her Mom with a strawberry blond locks and a smile a mile wide! Her blue eyes will lull you into thinking she’s a meek little thing but don’t let those eyes fool you, she’ll out run, out play anybody on any day! She’s a girl with a mission and for those of you who know Melanie know the apple did not fall far from the tree!

Dinner done and over with, we moved on to bathe time and does this little one love her bath! She loved it, it was hard to get her out, but we managed to get the job done. It was winding down time and soon our little princess would head to bed. We sang her favourite song, wheels on the bus over and over again, read a story and then off to la-la land she headed. It was as easy as that!

I sat with my glass of wine and thought to myself ‘self, what a lucky woman you are!’ and I was right! As a little girl I can’t say I ever spent a day with my grand-mother, either of them. Both of my grand-parents had many grand-children and both had raised many kids of their own so the novelty of grandkids was never big for them or at least I don’t have that memory.

It’s my mission in life to spend as much time as possible with my grand-children and yesterday I did my fair share! I’ve got the sparkles in my hair to prove it!

Till next time,

Sweet Marie

This is a favourite of Denis’ so I thought I’d share it with you all.

You will need:

  • 1 lb of ground meat ( I use turkey,chicken,veal or beef)
  • 2/3 cup oatmeal
  • 1 egg
  • seasonings (onion soup mix, garlic, parsley, chilli season, mexi season, italian seasonings etc)
  • barbecue sauce or ketchup

Blend top 3 ingredients together, now add whatever seasonings you are up to tonight.  Form into a loaf and place in an ovenable dish.  Pour some ketchup or BBQ sauce over top, just enough to make a thin layering. DO NOT cover with foil, bake without lid for about 1 hour at 350 degrees. (till brown on all edges). Let cool for 10 minutes before cutting into it. Serve in nice big slices, enjoy!

Bon appetit!

I had a conversation today with a lady that I work out with, at the Fitness Forum. she doesn’t believe in Facebook….I asked her “you don’t believe in it? Well its real honey!” she didn’t get it. She thinks it’s a hassle…wanna know what I think ? Like you get a choice here!

Facebook has been wonderful for me. I get to keep in contact with my nieces and nephews that are away at college/university. I would never hear from them otherwise as kids that age are truly too busy studying (wink, wink), not to mention we have a huge family so aunts and uncles do come secondary…I do get that.

I also have several cousins, first cousins that I never see but keep in touch by Facebook. I know this sounds sad but when you have over 100 first cousins,it’s hard to even remember their names! How sad is that? First I think of all the aunts and uncles I have, then try to remember which cousin belongs to whom! It’s a job I tell you. I tried to count how many cousins I do have last night while trying to fall asleep and well…I fell asleep! It’s better than counting sheep!

I also have many friends that either I used to work with or live out-of-town that I keep contact with. You would be surprised at how many friends one can amass over a lifetime! This is fun as when you no longer work together it’s hard to keep in touch. Facebook makes this possible and you feel as tho you are in touch when in reality perhaps you’re not, but I like feeling it anyhow!

My favourite part of Facebook tho is playing games with my siblings. My brother Andre and I play Family Feud all the time and for the most part, he’s kicking my ass! Monique, Colette and I play a game of Lexolus(scrabble) almost everyday. A game can take us a week to play but it’s fun. Monique cheats tho so if you’re going to play with her, know she CHEATS!!! I kid, but she does cheat!  This is a great way to use Facebook, to keep in touch with your siblings in other cities, for me it’s been great.

The other awesome thing about Facebook are the photos. When someone posts videos or photos of a recent event or their grand-children, well that just makes my day. which reminds me, I should post some new photos of my grand-kids! They are the cutest little things going!

Happy birthday Wendy and Andrew! Happy Anniversary Colette and Greg!

Well folks, I have some family feud games I have to catch up on, sleep well!
